On Tuesday, January 9 nearly 30 members of SYCBA met at the Glen Rock American Legion Post for the first meeting of 2018. The Post Commander gave remarks to the group and we also heard from the Americanism Committee Chair, Eric Mueller, about opportunities for local high school students attending Southern York County School District and Spring Grove. SYCBA members shared their successes during 2017 and goals for the new year as well as ways the group can help them achieve their goals.
The monthly meeting at the Christian School of York was full of games & networking. Our group enjoy a variety of games including ladder ball, giant connect four and Plinko!!! The members all showed their skills at the Giant Jenga station, carefully moving each piece without making a single tower fall!!! What a fun event that provided a great opportunity to really get to know our fellow SYCBA members!! Cannot wait until next year!
A big thanks goes out to the staff of York County Office of Emergency Management for hosting our meeting this month and giving members a great tour of the facilities. This meeting also included an educational presentation by Heather Warner from GRIT Marketing Group, who gave us great tips on digital marketing and improving website rankings. We also heard from our nonprofit members who are participating in our Bowl for A Cause fundraiser presented by HB McClure on how this fundraiser will help each of their organizations.
The focus for our August meeting was networking. Each individual in attendance had the opportunity to speak for one minute about his/her business, upcoming events, projects, and ideal referrals. It’s always a treat to hear directly from our members as we have a diverse group of industries represented. If you were unable to attend, take some time to peruse our membership directory and reach out to a member you may not know and schedule time to meet for coffee or a meal and learn about them and their business.
Our shoe drive is in full force and we are already seeing bags of shoes being dropped off. Please continue to spread the word so we can collect as many shoes as possible to raise money for our scholarship fund. Tell coworkers, friends, family, and everyone. You can use the blurb below to advertise our shoe drive on Facebook and other social media sites.

Thanks to all who joined us at Wyndridge Farm for our Summer Social. Members and guests enjoyed delicious appetizers and crafty drinks while kicking back and socializing. At our social we did discuss our Shoe Drive that is currently in progress to raise money for our scholarship fund as well as announce that registration is now open for our Bowl for A Cause fundraiser presented by HB McClure. Make sure you are collecting all of your gently used shoes for our drive and take a few minutes to register for our Bowl For A Cause before the lanes fill up.
Our June meeting was held at Brown’s Orchards. Everyone had a great time networking and enjoying the food and warm weather. We also announced our 2016/2017 SYCBA scholarship winners; Anya Grunewald from Dallastown High School and Alberto Mateos from Hanover High School. Read more about our scholarship winners here.
This year, we had the opportunity to present $500 scholarships to two York County seniors. Anya Grunewald graduated from Dallastown High school and plans to attend Emory University in Georgia to major in business with concentrations in finance and entrepreneurship. While at Dallastown, Anya was involved in many extra curricular activities and was the recipient of numerous awards. In the fall of 2016 Anya started her own business, A to Z Marketing, managing the social media accounts of small businesses and recently expanded her services to include website development and logo design.
Alberto Mateos graduated from Hanover High school and will attend York College in the fall to study Business/Marketing. Alberto participated in athletics while in high school, earning four varsity letters and serving as the captain of the track team his senior year. Alberto has been employed in the local Hanover community for several years.
Congratulations Anya and Alberto!
